NEW YEAR’s Resolutions That Actually Work.
It’s that time of year again. The time for setting goals and getting stuff done. The garage needs cleaning out (and the fridge too – now that we think of it). There’s weight to be lost and reading to catch up on. You may have plenty of resolutions, but how do you actually make them happen? New Year’s resolutions are renowned for being flops. Not in 2019! We’re here to make sure that your resolutions stick. Here’s 5 tips on how:
1. Identify your goals
The first thing to do is write down your goals. Research shows that writing down your goals significantly increases the chances of them becoming a reality. Even better, people who share these goals with a mentor are 70% more likely to achieve them! Looks like item number one on your 2019 to-do list should be: ‘Get a mentor’.
2. ‘I want to be a Billionaire!’
Please don’t make this your New Year’s resolution. The best way to fail at your goals is to make them unachievable. If you set a goal that’s very complex and hard to achieve, you will be disappointed. Instead, focus on changing things you can actually change. Think realistically to make a lasting impact. You want to strike a balance between boring and impossible. Try to find a goal which is challenging but actually possible to achieve within the next year. This may mean splitting up your big dreams into smaller goals. For example, change this year’s business goal from, ‘become a billionaire’ to ‘break even’ or ‘increase margins’. One step at a time!
3. Measure twice, cut once.
This builders’ saying is famous for a good reason. We make mistakes when we don’t plan and measure carefully! We encourage you to create well-considered goals that are measurable. This allows you to keep track of your progress and adapt along the way. Measurement can also be a great motivator!
4. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
Our number one tip to achieving your New Year’s resolutions is this: make them the first thing you think about in the morning. The moment you open your eyes, visualise your goals. As you eat your breakfast, read your goals aloud. This will give you the focus and attention you need to push things forward. For a year of success – start your days with an order of goals sunny side up!
5. FIND A MENTOR
The best thing you can do is to seek a mentor. A lack of mentorship is one of the most common reasons New Year’s resolutions fail. Without anyone to hold you accountable, guide you and encourage you – your goals will fall to the wayside. Stop this pattern by making 2019 the year of the mentor! It all comes down to having the right person in your corner. A mentor is your one-stop-shop for New Year’s success!
